Royals get offensive in win over Laguna Blanca

San Marcos put together one of its best offensive efforts of the season in beating Laguna Blanca 59-40 in a non-league girls basketball game Friday night.

“We showed good offensive focus and defensive energy,” said San Marco coach Kristyn Miller.

Gabby Sandoval scored 14 points to pace the Royals (5-15). Desiree Porter-Ray added 12 points and Emily Dietz scored 10.

“By no means was it an easy win for us,” Miller noted. “Laguna Blanca kept coming. In the third quarter, we put the brakes on them.”

The Royals shut down the Owls’ Krysta Brown, holding her to one point in the second half after she scored nine in the first half. Brown led her team with 12 rebounds,

Amanda Schulenberg led Laguna in scoring with 14 points.

“I applaud the girls for their effort,” Laguna coach Chris Foster said. “What killed us was our free throws. We made 9 of 25.

“The girls played hard and will go on to the next game.”

Laguna Blanca falls to 4-9.
