Royals can’t keep pace with first-place Ventura

Ventura came out smoking in the first quarter, scoring 24  points en route to a 69-45 win over San Marcos in a Channel League boys basketball game on Wednesday.

The Cougars knocked down eight 3-pointers and improved to 20-2 overall and 8-0 in league.

San Marcos hit five treys, but it couldn’t keep pace with Ventura. Johnny Manzo and Christian Mkpado each scored 11 points for the Royals (14-8, 3-5).

Jared Wilson led the Cougars with 14 points and Jon McMurray added 12 points and Dylan Houck 11. Eleven players scored for Ventura.
