McCabe king of ‘Queen of the Coast’

Women's champion Demi Boelsterli scored a 8.83 on this wave, her first in the women's final.

Mike McCabe unseated Kilian Garland at this year’s Rincon Classic, which was held over the weekend under sunny skies with consistent shoulder-to-head-high waves.

McCabe edged Garland in the pro-division final with a two-wave score of 14.83 compared to Garland’s 14.63. The result denied Garland his fifth-straight Classic win and seventh overall.

Another veteran of the Classic, Demi Boesterli, kept her string of women’s division victories going with her seventh straight women’s title. Her two-wave total of 15.50 in the final topped Lakey Peterson’s 11.50. Peterson did capture the Wahine division for female surfers 17-and-under.

Charlie Dentzel, Vinny Leonelli and Sean Woods captured junior boys titles.

On the other side of the spectrum, Mike Lamb and Max Cail brought home Masters titles.

This year’s event was the 28th edition of the Rincon Classic. It was the 11th year for contest organizer Chris Keet, who dedicated this year’s event to original founder Jeff White, who passed away in December.

In a standout performance, Andrew Bennett nailed 1st in men’s and 3rd in Pro. Seems like a real oversight by the writer of this article to not have mentioned either results at all….
