Dons use second gear to gun it past Oxnard

Once Santa Barbara High’s girls basketball team started rolling on Saturday, it was full-steam ahead as the Dons pocketed a 56-26 victory over Oxnard at the Buena Extravaganza.

Santa Barbara trailed Oxnard 12-11 after the first quarter before the Dons exposed the mismatch.

“We kind of figured things out,” said Dons head coach Andrew Butcher.

Riley Lloyd led Santa Barbara with 10 points and a season-high 14 rebounds while Ivette Gil posted a team-high 13 points. Tess Emerson, who had five steals, and Zoe Echternacht also reached double digits in scoring with 10 each.

The Dons have a bye-week coming up and don’t have to put their jerseys back on until January 27.
