CIF Polls: Dons, Cate post gains in boys soccer

Santa Barbara High’s boys soccer team catapulted back into the CIF rankings on Monday as the year’s first polls were released by the CIF office.

The defending Division II champion fell out of the Division I rankings in the last set of polls after some early season struggles. But in the month since then, the Dons have not lost and won two tournament titles over winter break. Santa Barbara (13-3-3) is No. 3 in Division I after being unranked in the previous poll.

Dos Pueblos is No. 8 with an overall record of 12-3-1.

Cate’s boys soccer team is no longer under the radar. The Rams are off to an 8-0 start this season and have taken over as the No. 1 team in Division VII for the first time this season.

Dos Pueblos’ girls water polo team remains firmly entrenched in its No. 1 position in Division I. The Chargers are riding a 46-game win streak. No. 5 Santa Barbara came as close as anyone to beating them last week, challenging the Chargers to a 6-5 decision.

The top eight teams in Division I will be in Santa Barbara this weekend for the Tournament of Champions, which also features the top three teams in Division II.

The girls basketball teams at Santa Barbara High and Dos Pueblos are both ranked in Division II-A ahead of their huge Channel League clash on Tuesday night. The Chargers are No. 4 and the Dons No. 5.

San Marcos has the only ranked boys basketball team in the area, coming in at No. 6 in Division III-A.
