Chris Castillo scored on a spectacular volley just before halftime to propel Dos Pueblos to a 5-1 win over San Marcos on Tuesday in a Channel League match at Scott O’Leary Stadium.

“He hit an unbelievable volley into the upper V,” DP coach Tovi Eliasen said. “He hit it correctly. It was a thing of beauty. That really helped give us confidence going into the second half.”

The goal gave the Chargers a 3-1 lead.

San Marcos had the run of play early in the match, but DP sprung Ivan Luna on a breakaway and he was fouled in the box. Johnny Fisher converted the penalty kick for a 1-0 lead.

The Chargers (14-4, 2-2) struck again one minute later. Fisher took a shot from the top of the box that was deflected to Eddie Flores and Flores volleyed it past the goalkeeper.

San Marcos (1-2 in league) got on the board off a long throw-in. The ball was flicked in the box and headed in from close range.

Danny Rowell, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, got back on the field for 10 minutes and scored in that time. Fisher delivered a free kick to the far post and Rowell was there to bury it into the back of the net.

Flores scored his second goal of the game on a free kick after Robert Bertha was fouled just outside the box.

“My guys did a really good job of clinical finishing,” Eliasen said. “We had good opportunities and we really buried them today. Our skill really showed today.”
