Chargers’ offense erupts for 5-1 victory

Johnny Fisher had a hand in three goals to lead the Dos Pueblos boys soccer team to a 5-1 romp over Buena on Tuesday.

Fisher started the scoring when he converted a penalty kick in the 10th minute. The Chargers were awarded the PK when Fisher was fouled on a breakaway.

The hustle and skill of Vicente Perez set up the second goal. He raced down the right flank to catch up to the ball at the byline and then hit a cross to Ivan Luna, who tapped it into the net.

“The cross was spectacular,” said DP coach Tovi Eliasen.

It was Perez’s eighth assist of the year.

A 40-yard free kick from Fisher led to an own-goal by Buena and a 3-0 DP lead in the 16th minute.

The Bulldogs avoided the shutout with a goal in the 70th minute.

Dos Pueblos (13-3-2, 1-1) answered with goals in the 75th and 80th minutes. Roberto Carmona played a through ball to Omar Montalvo, who broke in on goal and buried his shot for his second goal of the season.

Fisher set up the final goal, hitting a hard low shot that was knocked in by Eddie Flores at the far post.

Eliasen said he was able to get several players a lot of playing time. “Everybody contributed and did something in the game.”

He lauded the play of Scott Terry and Kyle Schmechel.
