Carpinteria loses heartbreaker against No. 4 Grace Brethren

Carpinteria’s girls soccer team was playing a solid game against No. 4-ranked and undefeated Grace Brethren when it was stunned by some bad luck.

A dubious foul in the Carpinteria box was called and the Lancers were awarded a penalty kick. They converted and held on for a 1-0 victory over the Warriors.

Carpinteria coach Lucy Carleton said she asked sweeper Kelsey Drain if she committed the foul and Drain told her no. Carleton complained to the referee, but the call stood.

“It’s so disappointing,” Carleton said.

It was the third straight one-goal loss by the Warriors, who fall to 0-4 in the Frontier League.
