Bishop pulls way from Carpinteria in 4th quarter

Kelsey Stimson scored seven of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to help Bishop Diego defeat crosstown rival 57-43 in a non-league girls basketball game Tuesday night at Bishop.

“We played really well as a team,” Bishop coach Jeff Burich said. “We played Carp five days ago and won by 20, so we knew this would be a tougher game for us, because they’d play harder.”

The Cardinals led by only six entering the fourth quarter, but they stepped up their play to pull away.

“We challenged them in the fourth quarter,” Burich said.

Greer Shull hit 4-of-5 free throw in the last three minutes to help Bishop’s cause.

Courtney Houston also scored 15 points and Stimson grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Bishop (9-5) opens Tri-Valley League play on Thursday against Oaks Christian.
