Bishop picks up defensive effort, rallies past Malibu

Bishop Diego stepped up its defense in the second half and rallied for a 52-45 Frontier League basketball win over Malibu on Senior Night at the Brick House.

The Cardinals held Malibu’s leading scorer Jack Platner to five points in the second half after he pumped in 12 in the first half.

Bishop coach Dean Prophet credited the defense of Paul Garcia for containing Platner. He also praised Ben Kwock’s defensive pressure on the Malibu point guard.

At the offensive end, Elias Munoz led the way for Bishop with 18 points and Noah Tack added 14.

“We got positive contributions from everyone who got in,” Prophet said.

The Cardinals (15-7, 6-1) play host to Santa Paula in a first-place showdown on Wednesday.
