Big first half sparks Bishop to win over Malibu

Elias Munoz led a first-half surge that carried Bishop Diego to a 70-52 boys basketball win at Malibu on Wednesday night.

Munoz scored all of his 16 points in the first half, as Bishop roared to a 44-24 lead in the Frontier League game.

“He missed only one or two shots; he was on fire,” Bishop coach Dean Prophet said of Munoz.

“We had a good first half. We put up some points in the first half. It was weird because it was against a zone, and we usually don’t shoot well against a zone. They handled it and shot well,” Prophet said.

Johnny Diaz came off the bench to score 14 points and Noah Tack added 12, making 10 of 12 from the free-throw line.

The Cardinals improved to 11-5 and 2-0 in the Frontier League.

  1. We were down in Malibu for the Bishop boys basketball games, and could not believe the poor sportsmanship displayed by Malibu. They were loud, rude, disrespectful and out of control – someone needs to teach them the meaning of “class”
