San Marcos dropped its Channel League boys soccer opener on Tuesday, falling to Ventura 3-1 at Valley Stadium.
Ryan Gilmore tied the score for the Royals in the last minute of the first half. Following a free kick, Gilmore controlled a rebound in front of the goal and chested in a short-range shot for the goal.
The Cougars scored twice in the second half to win the match.
San Marcos falls to 4-7-2, 0-1.
