Royals defense shines on San Diego weekend

San Marcos’ girls soccer team traveled to San Diego for an overnight road trip this weekend, facing Otay Ranch on Friday and University City on Saturday.

While the Royals tied Otay Valley 0-0 and then lost to University City 1-0, Lloyd Biggs liked what he saw in the two games.

“We’re going to be a tough team to score on,” San Marcos’ coach said, having raved about his team’s defense over the weekend.

At the heart of the backline are middle defenders Rachel Venturino and Christine Pearson. Sharon Sweeney and Kaiylin Koopmans act as bookends on either side.

The Royals (1-2-1) face three games in three days next week starting with a Wednesday matchup at Nipomo. San Marcos then hosts Oak Park and Moorpark on Thursday and Friday.
