Royals blank Oak Park for fifth shutout

Vickie Uribe scored a second-half goal for San Marcos’ girls soccer team on Thursday, lifting the Royals to a 1-0 victory over Oak Park.

It was the fifth shutout of the season for San Marcos, which has an overall record of 2-2-3. The Royals have only given up three goals in seven games.

“Defensively we’re looking very strong,” said Royals head coach Lloyd Biggs.

Uribe scored on a play that started with her taking a corner kick. The ball was defended back out to her, where she took a shot from a tight angle that found its way past the Oak Park keeper.

Hannah Ball and Hannah Harrah combined to record the shutout in goal for San Marcos.

“Our midfield really played well tonight,” Biggs said, mentioning Jillian Hirsch, Caroline Vance and Kelly Shara as a unit. “They worked really hard to fufill the game plan that we have as a team.”

The Royals play again on Friday at home against Moorpark at 5:30 p.m.
