Dos Pueblos opened up play in the Soccer Town Showcase on a winning note Friday, holding off Bellflower 3-0 in Goleta.

“The end result sounds nice but it took a long time to break through,” said Chargers head coach Tovi Eliasen.

The match was deadlocked 0-0 until the 57th minute, when Vicente Perez registered his first goal of the season on a half-volley that ended up in Bellflower’s side net.

Perez’s goal opened the floodgates for the Chargers, who scored three times in less than 10 minutes. Perez kept it going, hitting a ball that deflected off the crossbar to set up a goal from Irving Beltran off a rebound.

Ivan Luna gave DP its 3-0 lead in the 65th minute by converting a ball from Chris Castillo off a quickly taken free kick.

Dos Pueblos, ranked No. 3 in CIF Division I, is off to a 7-0-1 start.

The Chargers didn’t have a strong start on Friday, however, recording 11 shots in the first half without a score.

“They did play really well in the second half and I thought Vicente’s play was a big reason for that,” credited Eliasen.

Dos Pueblos plays Bullard in its morning game on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. before taking on Cabrillo/Long Beach at 5:30 p.m.
