Dena Slaff gave Santa Barbara the lead in the first half, but defending champion Buena struck for two goals in the second half and defeated the Dons 2-1 in the Channel League girls soccer opener at Peabody Stadium.
Slaff scored during a scramble in front of the Buena goal. The Dons had other chances during the game but couldn’t finish.
A.J Tewes tied the score on a header off a corner kick in the 50th minute and Riley Ridgik blasted in the game-winner for the Bulldogs (4-2-2) in the 70th.
Santa Barbara (0-6-2, 0-1-0 got a solid game from goalkeeper Angela Biancone.
