Cardinals fly high in Bird Cage Classic opene

Courtney Houston tossed in 18 points and grabbed four rebounds to pace Bishop Diego to a 52-24 rout over Cabrillo in the first-round of the Bird Cage Classic girls basketball tournament.

Greer Shull added 11 points, Allison Breuer scored eight points and blocked three shots and Kelsey Stimson grabbed 10 rebounds, had five assists and six points.

“We played a much better defensive game than last night and got better shots,” said Bishop coach Jeff Burich.

The Cardinals take Thursday off before resuming tournament play Friday against St. Bonaventure.

The other teams in the tournament are Oak Park, Carpinteria, Camarillo, Villanova and La Reina.
