UCSB defender Michael Boxall has been invited to the 2011 Major League Soccer Combine in Florida, where coaches and scouts evaluate talent before the MLS Draft on Jan. 13.
MLS invited 58 collegiate seniors to the combine, set for Jan. 8-11 in Fort Lauderdale. The invitees, along with Generation adidas players (underclassmen) and selected players from lower division schools, play a series of scrimmages for the coaches and scouts.
Boxall, a native of Auckland New Zealand, anchored the Gauchos defense for the last three seasons. He was named the 2010 Big West Defender of the Year, and he is a two-time All-Big West first-team selection.
Other California players selected for the combine were Junior Burgos of Cal Poly, Ernesto Carranza of Sacramento State, Servando Carrasco, Hector Jimenez, Demetrius Omphroy, A.J. Soares and Davis Paul of Cal, Amani Walker of UC Irvine and Bobby Warshaw of Stanford.
