Menegon gives Warriors a boost off the bench

Carpinteria defeated Channel Islands for the third time this season to complete play at the Valley Chrisitan Academy boys basketball tournament.

The Warriors won 44-39 to rebound from an earlier 40-31 loss against Nipomo.

Myles Menegon scored 12 points and Eric Trujillo added 11 against Channel Islands.

“We came out a lot more focused,” Carpinteria coach Johnny Ward said.

The Warriors also played strong coming out of the halftime break. They went from a one-point lead to 12 in the third quarter.

Carpinteria beat Channel Islands at the Fillmore Tournament and at its Jim Bashore Holiday Classic.

Ward praised the defense of Menegon.

“Myles came off the bench and took their big kid out of the game. He had 11 points in the first half and four in the second half,” said Ward.

Misa Ayala also gave the Warriors solid play.

“He played well defensively off the bench and scored seven points. It was his best game of the year,” said Ward.

Carpinteria will enter the new year with a 9-4 record.
