Two straight victories on the road is an accomplishment for any team and getting it done in the playoffs can be next to impossible. Cate’s girls volleyball team made the attempt on Thursday night but fell 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 at Serra in the second round of CIF’s Division IV-AA playoff.
The Rams, who tied for second place in the Condor League, defeated Westminster in the first round on Tuesday.
Cate head coach Dan Matheson said the Cavaliers’ Edarkis Branch was a handful.
“She was hitting up and over our blocks,” Matheson said, as the Rams were unable to find an answer for the division’s third-seed. “It was a good game to watch, it just a heartbreak that the other team was such a powerhouse and a monster.”
“The girls still came out and played their hearts out,” Matheson said, singling out Annie Weis.
It was the final match for seniors Gracey Gates, Grace Gail, Addie Mayfield and Savannah Jones.
