SBCC still can’t crack Pirates, lose 3-0

Ventura scored twice in an 11-minute span of the second half and went on to beat SBCC 3-0 in the second round of the Southern Cal Women’s Soccer playoffs at Ventura.

It was the third meeting of the year between the No. 2-seeded Pirates, who won the WSC title, and the WSC runner-up Vaqueros, who were seeded seventh. Ventura (17-3-2) won all three meetings with SBCC (16-4-2).

Jessica Domenichelli, coming off a four-goal game against Moorpark, had a 1-on-1 opportunity with the Ventura goalie in the first half but couldn’t convert. Margot Valenzuela had a good chance late in the second half but the goalie made another save.

Ventura scored in the 60th and 70th minutes to take a 2-0 lead. “They were strong shots to the corner of the goal,” said Vaquero assistant coach Paul Hart. “We played great in the first half and we kept battling to the end.”
Domenichelli, a freshman forward, set a school record with 25 goals.

“We were nationally ranked and this is the farthest the girls have ever advanced,” said head coach John Sisterson. “It was a good season and we’ll have a lot of talent coming back next year.”
