Come-from-behind win huge for San Marcos

A defensive stop preserved San Marcos’ 9-8 Channel League triumph over Buena on Monday, which was the Royals’ first league victory since 2007.

San Marcos came from behind in the fourth quarter by scoring the contest’s final two goals. With 23 seconds remaining, Buena ran a play out of a timeout that was hounded by Ben Battles and a shot was saved by Chris Bebb.

Andre Rivera led San Marcos(10-18, 1-6) in scoring with three goals. Tyler Lisea and Shane Hauschild tallied two each.

“I’m really happy with the way the guys have continued to strive to improve and it showed in the last couple of weeks with wins over two teams that we had previously been defeated by earlier in the season,” wrote Royals head coach Jeff Ashton in an email.

The Royals close out their season on Thursday against league champion Dos Pueblos.
