Chargers come from behind to get season opener

Defensive stops lifted Dos Pueblos to a 63-60 over Valencia on Monday, as the Chargers came from behind in the fourth quarter before holding on at the end.

Jasmine Mata and Talitha Draper knocked down free throws down the stretch to give Dos Pueblos its three-point lead. The Chargers came through with multiple defensive stops in the final two minutes to preserve the season-opening victory.

Kristin Gowdy led Dos Pueblos in scoring with 15 points and Chiara DiMarco added 13. Chargers head coach Jelani Hicks said Draper, Gowdy and Claire Murphy played pivotal roles in the comeback.

“Once we got the lead, we kept it,” Hicks said.
