Warriors’ best score bested by La Reina

Christine Saito and Lauren Taira shot rounds of 50, but the Carpinteria girls golf team fell to visiting La Reina on Friday at par-36 Montecito Country Club, 213-275.

The match began with a moment of silence for Carpinteria coach, teacher and athletic director John Ward, who passed away from cancer less than two weeks ago.

“This match was in his honor on a beautiful afternoon at Montecito Country Club, a course John loved to play, and which graciously allows to us to use for our matches,” said coach Christine Gahan.

The Warriors (2-6) shot their best score by 11 shots, but La Reina had a pair of scores under 40 and improved to 10-2 on the year with a perfect 8-0 record in the Frontier League.

Gahan said that the Warriors are continuing to work towards their goal of shooting bogey golf, which would make them very competitive in league play.
