Villa has 5-shot advantage towards league title

DP's Vanesa Villa

Dos Pueblos’ Vanesa Villa staked herself a huge lead heading into the second day of the Channel League Girls Golf Championship, as her 82 at Soule Park on Wednesday was five strokes better than teammate Emily Fox.

Fox sits in second place at 87 while fellow Charger Paige Granneman is in third after carding a 90.

Santa Barbara High’s Haley True is in great position to become the Dons’ first Individual CIF qualifier in six years. True will start Thursday in fourth place, two shots behind Granneman.

Twenty-three golfers competed on Wednesday. The top six after Thursday will travel to Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo on Nov. 1 for the first round of CIF play.

Dos Pueblos’ Hannah Nolan and Santa Barbara’s Sarah Kirkwood are also in the top six after the first day.

Ventura’s Amanda Marshall leads the charge of those on the outside looking in. Marshall is two strokes behind Kirkwood while Bekah Beveridge and Kylie Wagner are just three back.

Santa Barbara’s Saralisa Ortega, in 10th, and Olivia Fanaro, in 11th, are also in the hunt for an individual postseason berth.

Alexandria Peretiako was San Marcos’ top finisher, followed by Melissa Jewkes.
