No. 5-ranked Chargers put Bulldogs away early

Dos Pueblos roared out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 13-2 romp over Buena in a Channel League water polo match at the Elings Aquatic Center on Thursday.

The early big lead allowed coach Chris Parrish to mix up his lineup. He pulled goalie Brady Moore after the first period and put him in the field. Moore responded by scoring two goals.

Phillip Bates played in goal for the rest of the match and made six saves. Buena scored its goals in the fourth period.

“It’s really nice to win our first three games in league,” Parrish said. “We’re halfway through in league and we’re feeling strong.”

He noted that the team had senior Christian Terpening on its mind. Terpening suffered a ruptured ear drum in practice and had surgery on Thursday.

“He’s doing well. We’re optimistic he’ll be able to play before the end of the season. We’ll know more next week.”

Chase Racich scored four goals and Jared Rassler tossed in three to pace the CIF Division 1 No. 5-ranked Chargers (13-2, 3-0).
