MPSF honors Golic for his big week in pool

Milos Golic was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mikasa Player of the Week it was announced Monday by the league. The senior scored 10 goals during UCSB’s two games last weekend, including a career-high tying seven goals in an 11-10 win over No. 8 Long Beach State.

Golic scored seven goals for the third time in his career during the Saturday win over the 49ers. He scored four goals in the first three quarters before helping the Gauchos climb back from a three-goal deficit with a pair of goals in the fourth quarter. The senior scored with 3:01 remaining in regulation time, tying the game at 10-all. He then tallied the game-winner just 26 seconds into sudden victory overtime to capture the first 2010 MPSF win for the Gauchos.

The native of Belgrade, Serbia also tallied three steals and drew an ejection in the victory.

On Sunday, Golic led the Gauchos with a hat trick against No. 2 USC. UCSB dropped the match, 13-9, to earn a split on the weekend.

Golic currently leads all MPSF players with 45 goals on the year and is second in the league with an average of 2.81 per game. Earlier this season, he broke the UCSB career goals record and his new school record currently stands at 257 goals.

UCSB (10-6, 1-2) will take this week off from games before continuing its current four-game road swing with games at Cal and Pacific on Nov. 6 and 7, respectively.
