Dons post big win over Troy at All-American

Santa Barbara High’s girls tennis team will be playing for fifth place at the All-American/Dana Hills Coastal Championship on Saturday after a big win over Troy on Friday got the Dons to the quarterfinals.

The Dons, No. 3 in Div. II, defeated Troy, the No. 6 team in Div. I. Santa Barbara came from behind to do so, as Grace Flintermann and Taryn Mjelde won clutch singles matches to force a tiebreaker. The doubles team of Meagan Grant and Stephanie Thornton came through with the deciding win to send Santa Barbara into the next round.

Santa Barbara was defeated in the next round by Torrey Pines of the San Diego section. Torrey Pines will face University in one semifinal while Corona del Mar and Dana Hills meet in the other.

The Dons will see a team from Peninsula in their first match on Saturday, which begins at 11:30 a.m.
