Coach Ward tribute to be at Memorial Stadium

A public tribute for John Ward has been scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 10 at Carpinteria High’s football stadium.

The community event for the longtime coach, teacher and administrator at Carpinteria and Bishop Diego High Schools will be at 5:30 p.m. at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium.

Coach Ward died on Wednesday, Sept. 29 after a battle with colon cancer.

He was the athletic director, coach of the boys basketball and boys golf teams and the head of the math department at Carpinteria High. Before arriving at Carpinteria in 2005, he spent 23 years at Bishop Diego.

“We will be taking this opportunity to celebrate our dad’s life and the legacy he left with the community,” wrote Ward’s children, Nancy, Kathryn and Johnny, of the public tribute on the website Caringbridge.org. “We would like for this to be a fun and positive affair, reflecting the humor and personality he was known for.”

Further information on the tribute for Coach Ward will be announced on the Caring Bridge website.

“We hope to see all of you whose lives have been touched by our dad,” the Ward children said.
