Chargers finish 5th at North-South Challenge

Chase Racich returned from homecoming and scored four goals, and Max Silva played one of his best games to help the Dos Pueblos water polo team defeat Murrieta Valley 12-11 in the fifth-place game at the North-South Challenge in Stanford.

Silva scored three goals in what coach Chris Parrish described as “a breakout game” for the junior. Racich played a strong game after participating in DP’s homecoming festivities on Friday night and traveling to the Bay Area to join the water polo team Saturday morning.

Goalie Brady Moore was a force against Murrieta Valley with 13 saves and three steals.

In the fifth-place semifinal, Kevin Cappon scored four goals and Moore recorded 11 saves and three steals in a 7-6 victory over St. Francis of Mountain View.

The Chargers (18-4) opened the tournament Friday by beating Acalanes 14-8. They then ran up against a strong Mater Dei team and suffered a 15-6 loss.

Mater Dei won the tournament, beating El Toro in the final.

Dos Pueblos returns home for a match against Santa Barbara on Tuesday for the Channel League championship.
