Cate was looking forward to the girls volleyball rematch against Thacher.
When the Condor League rivals first met in Ojai, Thacher came from behind and beat the Rams in five games.
Saturday’s rematch was all Cate. Playing aggressive from the start, the Rams rolled to a three-set sweep, 25-17, 25-19, 25-11.
“We’ve been practicing just to play that team and it really paid off,” Cate coach Greg Novak said.
Emma Birrell led a balanced attack with 12 kills. Addie Mayfield added 10 and Cydney Pierce.
Novak stressed to his players that he didn’t want to give the Toads anything easy to handle.
“We had a goal not to send free balls over and we bumped maybe two or three,” he said. We were swinging. That had a huge impact on the match.”
Cate improves to 4-2 in the Condor League and 8-2 overall.
