Cardinals curbed by Fillmore

Bishop Diego couldn’t hold on to a second-half lead on Friday, allowing Fillmore to score 27 second-half points on their way to a 34-29 non-league win for the Flashes.

The Cardinals built a 14-7 halftime lead on a touchdown receptions by Vince Figueroa and Bruce Garcia. Quarterback Nolan Tisdale connected with Figueroa for another touchdown late in the game, finishing with 199 passing yards and four touchdown completions.

Nick Paz gave Fillmore its first lead of the second half on the last play of the third quarter. The senior running back broke free for a 40-yard scoring run. Paz posted totals of 139 yards on 18 carries. Johnny Golson also gave Fillmore an edge on the ground, scoring two rushing touchdowns in the second half.

The game featured six lead changes or ties. It was not sealed until the Flashes recovered an onside kickoff attempt from Bishop following Figerueroa’s second touchdown with one minute left.

Bishop Diego falls to 1-3 on the season and returns home next week to face St. Genevieve.

Fillmore keeps its unbeaten record intact, improving to 5-0.
