Westmont still looking for first win on new field

Getting that first win on the new Thorrington Field has been difficult for the Westmont College men’s soccer team.

For the second straight day, the Warriors settled for a draw on their home pitch as they played Holy Names to a 1-1 tie in the final game of the Heritage Club Classic on Saturday.

Nana Akyen fed the ball to Isaac Thompkins on the right side and he beat the goalkeeper from 15 yards out. Both Akyen and Thompkins were second-half substitutes.

The Hawks recorded the equalizer in the 71st minute. Henry Goh scored the goal off a corner kick by Martin Meastratti.

The Warriors (2-0-2) return to action on Saturday, Sept. 11 as part of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. They will host Cal State San Marcos with the women kicking off at 1 p.m. and the men following at 3:30 p.m.
