UCSB’s Henry honored for her play against UCLA

On the heels of her seven-save performance in UCSB’s 1-1 tie with 13th-ranked UCLA on Sunday, freshman goalkeeper Makenna Henry has earned a trio of honors.

Henry was named Big West co-Defender of the Week. The Fountain Valley native was also selected as a “Primetime Performer of the Week” by CollegeSoccer360.com and UCSBgauchos.com Athlete of the Week.

The only goal that Henry allowed in her 110 minutes against UCLA came on a penalty kick in the second half. In the first half, she stopped a penalty kick to preserve what was, at the time, a scoreless tie.

The 1-1 tie halted the Bruins’ 65-game home winning streak, the longest in the nation.

On the year, Henry has now played in and started six contests. She has 20 saves, a goals against average of 0.86 and a save percentage of .800.

The Gauchos, who are 3-3-1 on the season, return to Meredith Field at Harder Stadium to host Weber State on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. They will also host Oklahoma on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.
