SBCC stays unbeaten after clash with Taft

Margot Valenzuela assisted on two goals Friday afternoon and Amanda Tafoya converted a penalty kick in her first college game as SBCC remained unbeaten with a 3-1 women’s soccer win at Taft.

Annie Dunne scored in the ninth minute on a corner kick from Valenzuela. The Cougars tied it in the 36th minute but the Vaqueros (4-0-1) responded four minutes later when Ali Raack was pushed down in the penalty area.

Tafoya, a freshman from Mission Viejo, put the visitors ahead for good 2-1 by converting the penalty kick into the bottom left.

Jessica Domenichelli completed the scoring with her ninth goal in the 87th minute on a through ball from Valenzuela.

“The girls played well and we’re delighted,” said coach John Sisterson. “Our score could have been higher if their keeper hadn’t played so well in the second half.”

SBCC travels to Santa Monica on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. contest.
