San Marcos overpowers Ventura in league opener

Jordan Lund didn’t lose a game in sweeping her three sets to lead the San Marcos girls tennis team to a 15-3 win over Ventura in the Channel League opener for both schools.

Caitlin Mannix also went 3-0 in singles and the doubles team of Parisa Fallahi-Liz Morris improved their record to 10-2 after going 3-0 against the Cougars.

“Parisa is playing the ad side of the court to near perfection, hitting backhands with heavy topspin, while Liz has really dominated the net with aggressive play, making her poaches look commonplace,” said San Marcos coach Jarrod Bradley.

He also liked how Lund was stroking the ball.

“Jordan served well and hit her groundstrokes with depth, moving her opponents around the court,” Bradley said.

The Royals (2-2, 1-0) are back in action Wednesday against Santa Ynez at the Alisal Country Club in Solvang.
