Improving Royals fall to No. 10 Cougars

Andre Rivera had a hat trick, Chris Bebb notched six saves and Jorge Flores played a solid defensive match, but the San Marcos boys water polo team couldn’t keep up with No. 10 Ventura in a 19-3 road loss on Tuesday.

“I thought that we played okay and are close to narrowing the gap between us and elite teams,” said coach Jeff Ashton. “We have continued to work hard and good things are happening, they just happen too slow.”

The coach added that Flores played strong defense against players who outweighed him by 50 pounds, and he also contributed on the offensive end with two ejections drawn.

The Royals (2-7, 0-2 Channel League) play Camarillo at Rio Mesa on Wednesday.
