DP youngsters tackle Ojai Invitational

Dos Pueblos entered a team of younger runners at Saturday’s Ojai Invitational, electing to rest its varsity cross country starters for this week’s Channel League opener in Goleta.

“Our sophomores ran well,” DP coach Leslie Wiggins said. “First-year cross country runners Haley Peterson and Shauny Grant took the lead for the girls, in 25th and 32nd place, respectively.”

Peterson ran the 3-mile hilly course in 22:22 and Grant came in at 22:45.

“That’s not an easy task when you consider they were running against varsity teams from Royal, Newbury Park and Ventura,” said Roth.

For the boys, Cameron Fry was the top DP finisher in 19:18. William Bermant came in next at 19:55 and Wes Cooperman followed in 20:04.

“They are all sophomores as well,” said Wiggins.

Dos Pueblos will host the first Channel League meet on Wednesday. The Charger girls won the league title last year while the boys finished second.
