Dons too deep in doubles for DP in 12-6 win

Santa Barbara's Stephanie Thornton returns a forehand volley in her first-round win with doubles partner Haley Galitzer.

Santa Barbara High used six different tandems and went 8-1 in doubles play to secure a 12-6 girls tennis victory over visiting Dos Pueblos on Tuesday afternoon.

“Our depth played a big role, particularly when you get to doubles. We had a lot of players playing good tennis today,” said Dons coach Steve Geremia.

[nggallery id=51]Ariana and Talia Hudson went 3-0 in doubles sets for Santa Barbara, while Lauren Stratman was 3-0 in singles for the Chargers. Santa Barbara had the match well in hand at 9-3 after two rounds.

“Both Dos Pueblos and San Marcos will be at home the next time we play them, and I guarantee you it’s going to be a lot tougher,” said Geremia.

The Dons (6-3, 3-0 Channel League) play at Ventura on Thursday while the Chargers (3-2, 2-1) host Buena.
