Dons get everyone involved in league-opening rout

Santa Barbara used 19 players, many of them first-year varsity players, in its 18-0 win over Buena in the Channel League girls tennis opener for both teams on Tuesday.

“They all played very well today,” said longtime Dons coach Steve Geremia. “Santa Barbara had one of its better days. The players who didn’t start the match played extremely well. I was very pleased with them.”

Taryn Mjelde, Lauren Feuer and Karina Thornton each won two sets in singles. In doubles, Hailey DeBoer captured three sets with partners Meagan Grant and Kelli Martindale. Lisa Santry-Stephanie Thornton won two sets.

The Dons (3-3, 1-0) play at CIF Division 1 eighth-ranked Harvard-Westlake today.
