DeHoog’s double-doubles power Gaucho spikers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Senior outside hitter Charlene DeHoog continued her weekend dominance for the UCSB women’s volleyball team, posting her third consecutive double-double as the Gauchos defeated New Mexico 20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 15-10 on Saturday.

DeHoog had 19 kills and 11 digs in the Gauchos’ victory, pushing the team’s record to 5-4 on the season. Kara Sherrard also added 10 kills and 13 digs while Stacey Schmidt had 17 kills, thanks to Dana Vargas’ season-high 56 assists.

DeHoog tallied and 51 kills and 40 digs over the team’s three-match weekend and was named to the Comcast Lobo Challenge All-Tournament Team. Schmidt was the other Gaucho to achieve All-Tournament honors, the third straight weekend the junior middle blocker has been named to an all-tourney squad.

The Gauchos continued their defensive presence, as four players totaled double-digit dig performances. Kelly Heenan had 15 digs while Vargas added 10. Kasey Kipp had a season-best three solo blocks to lead UCSB, which had 10.0 total team blocks. Kip chipped in nine kills while hitting .438.

As a team the Gauchos hit .284 and held the Lobos (4-5) to a .190 hitting percentage.
