Carpinteria drops a five-game match to Hueneme

That first win is getting closer for the Carpinteria girls volleyball team.

The Warriors lost a heartbreaker to Hueneme on Thursday, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 16-25, 17-15, falling to 0-5 on the season.

“It was a tough match,” Carpinteria coach Katie Dolge said. “The girls played really well. It’s the best they’ve played all season. We had some inconsistency, but they’d dig themselves out of hole. But it didn’t happen at the end.”

Meli Musson paced the Warriors’ attack with 11 kills. Libero Shelby Dunlap picked up 21 digs and Amy Davis reeled off five aces.

“I definitely see progress. Every single game has gotten better,” Dolge said. “We have a lot of young girls and inexperienced girls on the team. We’re trying to piece it together one match at a time.”

Carpinteria will host a 10-team tournament on Saturday.
