San Marcos High senior Ghazaleh Sailors brought back a bronze medal from the International Baseball Federation Women’s World Cup in Venezuela.
The United States defeated host Venezuela, 15-5, in the bronze-medal game on Sunday. The Americans lost to eventual champion Japan in the semifinals, 6-1.
Japan beat Australia, 13-3, for the gold medal.
Sailors, who played for the San Marcos JV team last season, went 1-for-4 at the plate and made four pitching appearances for the U.S. She earned one victory against Puerto Rico in pool play.
