Reid rules again in R&R Series mile swim

Stewart Reid won the mile ocean swim for the seventh time in the Reef and Run Series on Tuesday night at East Beach.

Reid, 37, edged out Summerland’s Dan O’Meara, 63, by three seconds at the finish. His winning time was 23 minutes, 40 seconds.

Kristina Hill was the top woman and third finisher overall in 24:05, and Valerie Eacret came in next at 24:51.

In the 1-kilometer swim, Matthew Morales, 18, of Walnut, came in first in 18:09 followed by teammate Dennis Taylor in 18:51 and Santa Barbara’s Doug Parent in 18:55.

Morales was part of a contingent of competitors from the Mt. San Antonio College men’s water polo team. Erica Schroeder, 13, was the top female finisher in 21:33.

Daniel Martin took the 2-mile run in 11:58 and Ryan Wenger captured the 4-mile event in 23:54.

Members of the Mt. SAC group garnered the top three spots in the duathalon (1k swim, 2-mile run). Dennis Taylor won in 32:15, followed by Matthew Morales (34:00) and Alex Chung (36:39). Doug Parent was the first local finisher in 37:45 and Goleta’s Katherine Warren was the top female in 38:35 (6th overall).
