G-Land finding early season success

Competing in only its second tournament since workouts began last month, the G-Land club baseball team took home the first place trophy from a tourney held this weekend at Girsh Fields in Goleta.

G-Land squared off on its home field against other 14U teams from Oxnard, Santa Maria and Tehachapi. After walloping Oxnard in the Saturday opener, G-Land fell six runs behind to the Tehachapi Trojans in the afternoon match before rallying to an 8-8 tie.

The two teams met again in the championship game on Sunday afternoon and this time G-Land dominated with some stellar hitting and downed Tehachapi 13-4.

G-Land, comprised of 13- and 14- year old athletes from the various youth leagues in Goleta and Santa Barbara, is part of a program founded and directed by Jacob Pepper. The program emphasizes conditioning, as well as baseball fundamentals, and aims to prepare players for high-school play with the kind of vigorous workouts designed for high school and college players.
