Dons reunite at Notre Dame de Namur

Three members of the CIF championship Santa Barbara High boys soccer team will continue playing together at the next level.

Attacking players Jesse Gonzalez, George Munoz III and Justin Jimenez are attending Notre Dame de Namur, a NCAA Division 2 school in Belmont.

The school plays in the Pac West Conference with Hawaii-Hilo, Chaminade of Hawaii, Hawaii Pacific, BYU-Hawaii, Domincan (San Rafael), Grand Canyon (Phoenix), Dixie State (Utah) and Academy of the Art (San Francisco).

Marcos Lopez, a standout defender for the Dons, is playing at Westmont College.

Gonzalez was the playmaker the Dons, who went a school-record 31-1-1, won the CIF Division 2 championship (the school’s sixth title in the sport), and finished runner-up in the CIF Regionals. He dished out a team-high 17 assists.

Jimenez tallied 10 goals and seven assists and Munoz scored seven goals for a talent-loaded Santa Barbara team.

Lopez brings a tough defensive mentality to Westmont as well as an ability to combine with the midfielders and score goals. He scored seven last season for the Dons.
