The championship high school golf teams that have come out of this area over the years have one thing in common: most of the players on those teams learned how to compete by playing on the Santa Barbara Junior Golf Tour.
The 2010 tour is in full swing with players between the ages of 10 and 17 taking part in tournaments every week through Aug. 20
The tour stopped at Glen Annie Golf Course this week for an individual event and at the Alisal River Course for a team competition.
Brett Patton shot a 1-over par 72 to capture the 16-over division at Glenn Annie. Johnny Hogan was second at 79 and Dylan Wright third at 80.
Ryan Stoll edged Grant Amerson, 82-83, to win the 14-15 group, and Michael Nam took the 12-13 age group with an 82. The 9-hole 10-11 division was won by Christian Heslin with a 50.
In the girls bracket, Isabella Doub shot a 79 to beat Kristin Henno by one stroke.
Alisal River was the site of the first team event of the year.
In the four-person scramble, the quartet of Carson Curtis, Michael Nam, Daniel Giordani and Ryan Stoll took top honors with a 59.
The team of Brett Patton, Grant Amerson, Anthony Blair and Andrew Rice finished second with a 63, one shot ahead of two teams: Dylan Wright Patrick Carmichael, Travis Fristoe and Vanesa Villa made up one team at 64; the other consisted of Bailey Rogers, Briggs Boss, Sam Pendergast and Connor Doke.
The next team event is Aug. 6 at Alisal Guest Ranch.
The next individual points tournament is Monday at La Cumbre Country Club.
