Santa Barbara’s World Cup Viewing Guide

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is upon us, and undoubtedly there are many of you checking your local viewing options. For those of you looking to root with the people, here’s the information you need.

Best Spots to Watch the 2010 FIFA World Cup in Santa Barbara

(June 11-July 11th)

  • The Press Room (15 East Ortega, 963-8121): The premier soccer bar in Santa Barbara, it was recognized as one of the top soccer-friendly watering holes in the country by SoccerAmerica.com. Open for most matches. Bar fills to capacity for big matches, so arrive early if you want to get in!
  • Old Kings Road (532 State Street, 884-4085): An English pub, Old Kings is a favorite for local soccer fans. Expect standing-room only crowds for any England or Team USA matches. Opens at 7 a.m. on most match days.
  • Union Ale Brewing Company (214 State Street, 845-8243): Opening its doors and kitchen for most World Cup matches, Union Ale is making its pitch to be the go-to place to enjoy the month-long tournament. Click Here to check their game schedule.
  • The Arlington Theatre : Santa Barbara’s historic theatre has been opening its doors for select World Cup matches. Admission is free. The tournament’s final will be shown on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
  • The Cliff Room (1828 Cliff Drive, 966-3060): Opening at 7 a.m. on select days, check their Facebook page for updates or call to make sure. Normal hours are 10 a.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends.
  • Madison’s: (525 State Street, 882-1182): Downtown Santa Barbara American sports bar.
  • Zodo’s Bowling & Beyond (5925 Calle Real, 967-0128): Z’s Taphouse features over 40 beers on tap is opening at regular hours (bar at 10 a.m., kitchen at 11 a.m.)
  • Santa Barbara Brew Co/ The Lounge (805) 730-1040: Will be opening earlier than 11:30 a.m. for select matches. Call ahead to be sure.
  • Woodstock Pizza (928 Embarcadero del Norte, 968-6969): Opening at 11 a.m. Perfect place for Isla Vista residents to catch each day’s late match.
  • Sandbar (514 State Street, 966-1388): Opening all month at 7 a.m., featuring split sound system for outside patio and inside bar area. Kitchen will be open for breakfast.
  • Dargan’s (18 East Ortega Street, 568-0702):  Opening at normal 11 a.m. time, will play any matches starting after 11 a.m. live, then replay earlier matches that afternoon. Recently upgraded several flat screens in pool room.
  • Sharkeez (416 State Street, 963-9680): Opening at 6:45 a.m. on any morning there are matches scheduled. Breakfast menu available.
  • Arnoldi’s (600 Olive Street, 962-5394): Open for select matches, a favorite for fans of the Azzurri.
