Vazquez, Williams joining DP coaching staff

Former Bishop Diego head basketball coach Ray “Slash” Vazquez won’t be without a bench to look after next season, joining Dos Pueblos’ coaching staff as an assistant to Joe Zamora.

“He brings a wealth of experience,” Zamora said on Monday of Vazquez, who led the Cardinals to the postseason in five of six seasons as head coach before stepping down this spring.

Vazquez takes a spot vacated by departing assistant Matt Wong, who is leaving to pursue a Master’s degree in sports physcology.

Zamora was also excited about the addition of former Dos Pueblos player Matt Williams to the program. Williams just finished a 10-year professional career in Europe after playing collegiately at Montana. Williams will coach the soph-frosh team while developing the post-men throughout the Chargers’ ranks.
