SBCC’s football schedule has its pluses & minuses

There was both good news and bad news for SBCC when the 2010 football schedule and realignment was announced by the Southern California Football Association.

“We got Moorpark back on our schedule and I’ve wanted to get them back for years,” said fourth-year head coach Craig Moropoulos. “Having a bye in the last week of the season isn’t very helpful but it is what it is. We play 10 straight weeks and we’re the only team in our conference in that situation.”

Two-time league champ Antelope Valley and East L.A. have left the American Pacific Conference. Glendale was added to make it a seven-team conference. Realignment takes place every two years.

SBCC will open at home on Saturday, Sept. 4 against county rival Hanock. Other home dates are Sept. 18 (Ventura), Oct. 2 (APC opener vs. L.A. Southwest), Oct. 16 (L.A. Pierce) and Nov. 6 (West L.A.). Kickoff for all games is 6 p.m. with the exception of West L.A., which starts at 7 p.m.

Santa Barbara was hindered by key injuries last year, going 3-7 and finishing sixth in the APC with a 2-5 mark. The Vaqueros averaged 42.3 points in their last three games.
